Clothing for the Priests

39The craftsmen made beautiful sacred garments of blue, purple, and scarlet cloth—clothing for Aaron to wear while ministering in the Holy Place, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H8504H713H8144H8438H6213H899H8278H8334H6944H6213H6944H899H175H3068H6680H4872

Making the Ephod

2Bezalelc made the ephod of finely woven linen and embroidered it with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.H6213H646H2091H8504H713H8438H8144H7806H8336 3He made gold thread by hammering out thin sheets of gold and cutting it into fine strands. With great skill and care, he worked it into the fine linen with the blue, purple, and scarlet thread.H7554H2091H854H6341H7112H6616H6213H8432H8504H713H8144H8438H8336H2803H4639 4The ephod consisted of two pieces, front and back, joined at the shoulders with two shoulder-pieces.H6213H3802H2266H8147H7098H7099H2266 5The decorative sash was made of the same materials: finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H2805H642H4639H2091H8504H713H8144H8438H7806H8336H3068H6680H4872 6They mounted the two onyx stones in settings of gold filigree. The stones were engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel, just as a seal is engraved.H6213H7718H68H4142H4865H2091H6605H2368H6603H8034H1121H3478 7He fastened these stones on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod as a reminder that the priest represents the people of Israel. All this was done just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H7760H3802H646H68H2146H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872

Making the Chestpiece

8Bezalel made the chestpiece with great skill and care. He made it to match the ephod, using finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.H6213H2833H2803H4639H4639H646H2091H8504H713H8144H8438H7806H8336 9He made the chestpiece of a single piece of cloth folded to form a pouch nine inchesc square.H7251H6213H2833H3717H2239H753H2239H7341H3717 10They mounted four rows of gemstonesc on it. The first row contained a red carnelian, a pale-green peridot, and an emerald.H4390H702H2905H68H2905H124H6357H1304H259H2905 11The second row contained a turquoise, a blue lapis lazuli, and a white moonstone.H8145H2905H5306H5601H3095 12The third row contained an orange jacinth, an agate, and a purple amethyst.H7992H2905H3958H7618H306 13The fourth row contained a blue-green beryl, an onyx, and a green jasper. All these stones were set in gold filigree.H7243H2905H8658H7718H3471H4142H4865H2091H4396 14Each stone represented one of the twelve sons of Israel, and the name of that tribe was engraved on it like a seal.H68H8034H1121H3478H8147H6240H8034H6603H2368H376H8034H8147H6240H7626 15To attach the chestpiece to the ephod, they made braided cords of pure gold thread.H6213H2833H8333H1383H5688H4639H2889H2091 16They also made two settings of gold filigree and two gold rings and attached them to the top corners of the chestpiece.H6213H8147H4865H2091H8147H2091H2885H5414H8147H2885H8147H7098H2833 17They tied the two gold cords to the rings on the chestpiece.H5414H8147H5688H2091H8147H2885H7098H2833 18They tied the other ends of the cords to the gold settings on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod.H8147H7098H8147H5688H5688H5414H8147H4865H5414H3802H646H6440H4136 19Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the inside edges of the chestpiece next to the ephod.H6213H8147H2885H2091H7760H8147H7098H2833H8193H5676H646H1004 20Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the front of the ephod, below the shoulder-pieces, just above the knot where the decorative sash was fastened to the ephod.H6213H8147H2091H2885H5414H8147H3802H646H4295H4136H6440H5980H4225H4605H2805H646 21They attached the bottom rings of the chestpiece to the rings on the ephod with blue cords. In this way, the chestpiece was held securely to the ephod above the decorative sash. All this was done just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H7405H2833H2885H2885H646H6616H8504H2805H646H2833H2118H646H3068H6680H4872

Additional Clothing for the Priests

22Bezalel made the robe that is worn with the ephod from a single piece of blue woven cloth,H6213H4598H646H707H4639H3632H8504 23with an opening for Aaron's head in the middle of it. The opening was reinforced with a woven collarc so it would not tear.H6310H8432H4598H6310H8473H8193H5439H6310H7167 24They made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attached them to the hem of the robe.H6213H7757H4598H7416H8504H713H8144H8438H7806 25They also made bells of pure gold and placed them between the pomegranates along the hem of the robe,H6213H6472H2889H2091H5414H6472H8432H7416H7757H4598H5439H8432H7416 26with bells and pomegranates alternating all around the hem. This robe was to be worn whenever the priest ministered before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H6472H7416H6472H7416H5439H7757H4598H8334H3068H6680H4872 27They made tunics for Aaron and his sons from fine linen cloth.H6213H3801H8336H707H4639H175H1121 28The turban and the special head coverings were made of fine linen, and the undergarments were also made of finely woven linen.H4701H8336H6287H4021H8336H906H4370H7806H8336 29The sashes were made of finely woven linen and embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet thread, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H73H7806H8336H8504H713H8144H8438H7551H4639H3068H6680H4872 30Finally, they made the sacred medallion—the badge of holiness—of pure gold. They engraved it like a seal with these words: HOLY TO THE LORD.H6213H6731H6944H5145H2889H2091H3789H4385H6603H2368H6944H3068 31They attached the medallion with a blue cord to Aaron's turban, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H5414H6616H8504H5414H4605H4701H3068H6680H4872

Moses Inspects the Work

32And so at last the Tabernaclec was finished. The Israelites had done everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H5656H4908H168H4150H3615H1121H3478H6213H3068H6680H4872H6213 33And they brought the entire Tabernacle to Moses: the sacred tent with all its furnishings, clasps, frames, crossbars, posts, and bases;H935H4908H4872H168H3627H7165H7175H1280H5982H134 34the tent coverings of tanned ram skins and fine goatskin leather; the inner curtain to shield the Ark;H4372H352H5785H119H4372H8476H5785H6532H4539 35the Ark of the Covenantc and its carrying poles; the Ark's cover—the place of atonement;H727H5715H905H3727 36the table and all its utensils; the Bread of the Presence;H7979H3627H6440H3899 37the pure gold lampstand with its symmetrical lamp cups, all its accessories, and the olive oil for lighting;H2889H4501H5216H5216H4634H3627H8081H3974 38the gold altar; the anointing oil and fragrant incense; the curtain for the entrance of the sacred tent;H2091H4196H4888H8081H5561H7004H4539H168H6607 39the bronze altar; the bronze grating and its carrying poles and utensils; the washbasin with its stand;H5178H4196H4345H5178H905H3627H3595H3653 40the curtains for the walls of the courtyard; the posts and their bases; the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard; the ropes and tent pegs; all the furnishings to be used in worship at the Tabernacle;H7050H2691H5982H134H4539H2691H8179H4340H3489H3627H5656H4908H168H4150 41the beautifully stitched garments for the priests to wear while ministering in the Holy Place—the sacred garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to wear as they minister as priests.H899H8278H8334H6944H6944H899H175H3548H1121H899H3547 42So the people of Israel followed all of the LORD's instructions to Moses.H3068H6680H4872H1121H3478H6213H5656 43Then Moses inspected all their work. When he found it had been done just as the LORD had commanded him, he blessed them.H4872H7200H3651H4399H6213H3068H6680H6213H4872H1288

Then the altar will become absolutely holy.H4886H4196H5930H3627H6942H4196H4196H6944H6944 11Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them.H4886H3595H3653H6942 12"Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water.H7126H175H1121H6607H168H4150H7364H4325 13Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest.H3847H175H6944H899H4886H6942H3547 14Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics.H7126H1121H3847H3801 15Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron's descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation."H4886H4886H1H3547H4888H5769H3550H1755 16Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him.H6213H4872H3068H6680H6213 17So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.H7223H2320H8145H8141H259H2320H4908H6965 18Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts.H4872H6965H4908H5414H134H7760H7175H5414H1280H6965H5982 19Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him.H6566H168H4908H7760H4372H168H4605H3068H6680H4872 20He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed themc inside the Ark. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves.H7760H3595H168H4150H4196H5414H4325H7364 31Moses and Aaron and Aaron's sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet.H4872H175H1121H7364H3027H7272 32Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H935H168H4150H7126H4196H7364H3068H6680H4872 33Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work.H6965H2691H5439H4908H4196H5414H4539H2691H8179H4872H3615H4399

The Lord’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle

34Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.H6051H3680H168H4150H3519H3068H4390H4908 35Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.H4872H3201H935H168H4150H6051H7931H3519H3068H4390H4908 36Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it.H6051H5927H5921H4908H1121H3478H5265H4550 37But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted.H6051H5927H5265H3117H5927 38The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.H6051H3068H4908H3119H784H3915H5869H1004H3478H4550
